[OOC] Say hello, wave goodbye
First things first- I have just released what is likely to be the last version of my 2d EveMaps- v3.58.
I have decided, after a nudge over 4 years, to hang up my Eve spurs. I love this game, but I need to prioritise my time better, and without the temptation to waste away an afternoon playing internet spaceships. I could just cut down my time playing, but this won’t work- I love the PvP, and this doesn’t always fit in neatly with my playtime like industry might.
So, with less regret then I expected, I am done with Eve. Maybe I’ll come back in the future, maybe not. I would like to thank everyone who has crossed my path in this game, New Eden wouldn’t be the same without you.
Special thanks to:
UK Corp who really shaped me as a capsuleer during my first year or so of playing
KIA for showing me that PvP could be damn good fun
Ushra’Khan for showing me that small gang PvP is even better fun
Wotlankor for being a good bud and all around nice guy
… and to all of you who have helped and supported my 2d maps, with bug fixes, constructive criticism and very generous donations indeed (no matter what the amount).

Sad to see ya go mate! Really like your maps very much and they have been a good guide for me. Although I have the EVE Strategic Maps, yours are so much better! Much easier to look at and very easy to understand. Hope you might find the time to keep maintaining them as a hobby.

Oh, Ombey. So very sad to hear this, but also relate completely the motivation behind it that RL must come first. Had you given any thought to placing your 2D maps in trusted hands to keep one of the very best resources in the game updated?

It has been a priviledge to fly with you in KIA and UK.
It has been a priviledge to have your trust.
It has been a priviledge to witness your work on various forums, blogs, corps, alliances, maps, killboards and a lot of other things you have brought to EvE.
It has been a priviledge.
EvE will be a more quiet and less shiney place without you.

Sorry to see you go Ombey, but it doesn’t surprise me that you’re leaving for a constructive reason.
Enjoyed flying with you in KIA and thanks for all the selfless time you have put into your maps, for KIA contracts and for all EVE capsuleers.
Take it easy and continue to enjoy life in your relaxed and self-confident way.

I’m a relatively new reader of your blog but have been using your maps since I started (nearly a year now). Absolutely indispensable and is, in my estimation, a must have for every pilot.
If a measure of a person is what they left behind, then you have certainly made your mark. I didn’t know you (other than from reading your blog) but I think you will be sorely missed by many.

Understandable reason, real life will always be more important than Eve.
However it is safe to say your leaving will be noted and sadden a great many pilots. Your maps have been truly one of the best contributions to the community, if not THE best resource.

Wow Ombey, damn shame to see you go my friend, it was a real honour to know you as little as I did and to fly alongside you. Thanks for being a friend and for everything you did for the community, your one in a million and you shall be greatly missed.
I know the need to prioritise can be strong, myself I haven’t managed to get into EVE for any of 2009 yet even going days without training skills due to just not having the time, real life can be a bitch but its gotta take priority.
I wish you, and your family all the best, and selfishly hope to one day share a gang with you again.

To answer any questions about this, I will probably keep the maps up to date, I can’t give them up quite so easily as actually playing the game. I will need people to email me the errata rather than EVEmail as I won’t pick them up.

Ouch, sad to see you go, even if you always will be a part of eve as long as your maps are usefull, I know I will continue to use them.
Also happy to see you keeping up with them, so that the step back to playing again will not be so long.

that i have been where you are now a couple of times.
since i started eve – i found a woman, made a proposal, got a child (now almost 4 years) – moved country – TWICE – made a step upwards at work – redicsovered an old hobby and prioritized it lower than eve, lol – opened a kung fu school – made drivers license…….
… time management works, priorisation works. But to get there, sometimes – a break is required.
Of course i hope you come back one day, but i also respect your very understandable decision.
Real life comes first.

Best of luck to you Ombey. You will be back – I said never again and after 4 years away here I am. You, Ushra’Khan and PIE are examples of how sometimes players REALLY DO know better than devs.
